TOPMAN COLLABORATION BRINGS HARRIS TWEED ‘TO A WHOLE NEW AUDIENCE’

Harris Tweed Hebrides, the Shawbost-based company who account for 95 per cent of Harris Tweed production, have welcomed a major collaboration with theretail icon, Topman.
The company have been working closely with Topman designers over the past year to create a stunning new men’s range, which extends from gloves and bow-ties to coats, trousers and jackets. ( www.topman.com )
Particularly good news for the industry is that Topman are promoting the range on their US web-site as well as the UK one. Topman also plan to carry the collection in their flagship stores, including New York, Tokyo and Edinburgh.
Mark Hogarth, creative director of Harris Tweed Hebrides, said: ”We are already getting media interest from the United States and this really could be the breakthrough we need to reach the younger American market. The Topman collection is both contemporary and classy. The choice of tweed and the cut on the designs are exquisite”.
Topman’s managing director, Jason Griffiths, said: “We are extremely excited about our collaboration with Harris Tweed Hebrides. As well coinciding with the centenary of the Orb trade mark, we feel that this collaboration will bring Harris Tweed to a whole new audience”.
Brian Wilson, chairman of Harris Tweed Hebrides, paid tribute to Ian Angus Mackenzie and his team at Shawbost. ”This was an important new client and as usual, they responded magnificently to produce the perfect product.
“Our production in 2010 is 50 per cent ahead of where we were at the same time last year, boosted by new clients like Topman as well as those who have worked with Harris Tweed for many years”.
